How to start the 5 minute timer
Press Start and this 5 minute timer counts down five minutes, then rings with the alarm sound you picked. It runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no app or account.
Five minutes, four common jobs
| Use | Why five minutes fits |
|---|---|
| Pomodoro short break | The classic Pomodoro method follows each 25-minute session with a 5-minute break. |
| Classroom clean-up | Long enough to put supplies away, short enough to keep everyone moving. |
| Lightning talks and pitches | Many lightning-talk formats give each speaker five minutes, so rehearse against the same limit. |
| Warm-up or stretching | A quick, fixed block before a run or workout so you don't skip it. |
Using the timer
- Press Start. The page shows the finish time, for example "ends at 10:05 AM".
- Press F for full screen if others need to see it.
- Pause with the Space bar; reset with R.
Your sound choice is remembered on this device. Keep the tab open: the alarm only plays while the page is open, and on an iPhone you may need to tap the page once before sound can play.
FAQ
Can I run two 5 minute timers at the same time? Yes: one page runs one countdown, so open a second 5 minute timer in another browser tab. Each tab keeps its own time and alarm.
Is there a five minute timer with music? There is no background music, only an alarm at the end. For a calmer finish, pick the Bell or Magic sound.
I want the full Pomodoro cycle, not just the break. The Pomodoro timer switches between work sessions and breaks automatically.
