How the 6 minute timer works
This 6 minute timer counts down from 6:00 and sounds an alarm when time is up. It's free, starts with a single click and runs on any phone, tablet or computer.
- Press Start or the Space bar.
- The page shows when the six minutes end, such as "ends at 9:21 AM".
- Pause with Space, reset with R, go full screen with F.
Why someone needs exactly six minutes
Six minutes usually comes from somebody else's instructions, so precision matters more than with a round number:
- Recipes that say "cook for 6 minutes" or "rest 6 minutes before slicing."
- Speech and debate practice, where a speaking slot has a fixed length and going over costs points. Rehearse with the timer muted and watch the circle.
- Workout plans that call for a 6-minute steady effort, a jog or a set of stretches.
- Classroom tasks like a short reading passage or a quick-write. Teachers who want a "time's up" message on screen can use the classroom timer.
Six minutes for younger kids
Children who can't read a clock yet understand "until the circle is gone." For an even clearer picture, the visual timer shows the time left as a shrinking colored disc, and you can hide the numbers entirely.
