How the 30 second timer works

Half a minute, timed exactly: the 30 second timer counts down from 0:30 and sounds an alarm at zero. Press Start (or Space) and it begins immediately – handy when you are already on the floor holding a plank.

Good uses for 30 seconds

  • Stretches. Many stretching routines hold each stretch for about 30 seconds. Reset with R, switch sides, start again.
  • Planks and holds. A realistic starting goal; build toward the 1 minute timer.
  • Exercise intervals. Thirty seconds on, thirty seconds off is a common interval pattern. Rather than resetting by hand each round, use the HIIT timer, which has a 30/30 × 10 preset with beeps between phases.
  • Quick games and answers. Thirty seconds to name five things, answer a trivia question or make a decision.
  • A short pitch. Can you explain your idea in 30 seconds? Rehearse until you can.

Handwashing?

The CDC recommends scrubbing your hands for at least 20 seconds, so 30 seconds is more than enough. If you want the exact figure, use the 20 second timer.

Tips for very short timers

With only 30 seconds, every second of setup counts. Choose your sound before you start, check mute is off, and on an iPhone tap the page once so the browser lets it play audio. Space and R let you restart without touching the screen if you're using a keyboard.

FAQ

Can it repeat automatically? No, this page runs one countdown. For repeating rounds, the interval timer lets you set work, rest and number of rounds.

Is the countdown accurate to the second? Yes, it measures time against your device clock rather than counting browser ticks.
