Set a 40 minute timer

Start the 40 minute timer and it counts down from 40:00, ringing at zero. As soon as you start it, the page shows the clock time the 40 minutes will end, which is often more useful than the countdown itself.

Common 40-minute blocks

A class period. Many school periods run somewhere around 40 to 50 minutes. Teachers can project the countdown in full screen (press F) for a lab, test or work session. For warnings before time runs out, the exam timer alerts at 30, 10 and 5 minutes left.

A workout. Forty minutes covers a solid run, a bike ride or a strength session with a warm-up and cool-down.

A study session. Forty minutes on one subject, then a break. If you like longer focus blocks with structured breaks, compare the 52/17 timer and the 50/10 timer.

A game or screen-time limit. "You have 40 minutes" is clearer when the end time is on the screen.

FAQ

Will a 40 minute timer drift if my computer is busy? No. It measures time against your system clock, so a busy or background tab doesn't throw it off.

Will I hear the alarm if I close the tab? No. The alarm only plays while the page is open, so leave the tab open until it rings.
