How to use the 2 hour timer

Long stretches are easy to lose track of. The 2 hour timer counts down two full hours and sounds an alarm when time is up. With a timer this long, the most useful part is the finish time shown once you start, such as "ends at 5:30 PM".

When people set a two hour timer

  • Parking. Two-hour parking limits are common on U.S. streets. Start the timer when you park, then glance at the end time to know when to move the car.
  • Long exams and practice tests. For a two-hour exam with warnings before the end and an optional reading period, use the exam timer, which has a 120-minute preset.
  • Daily screen-time or gaming limits. A clear end time ends the "five more minutes" debate.
  • Long study sessions. Two hours straight is hard to sustain. The 52/17 timer builds breaks into the session.

Setting it up

  1. Press Start or Space and note the finish time.
  2. Choose a sound you'll notice after two hours away – Announce or Emergency are the loudest.
  3. Keep working in other tabs; the remaining time appears in the tab title.

Honest limits for long timers

The timing itself stays accurate because it follows your system clock. But the alarm only plays while this page is open, so don't close the tab. On a phone, the browser may let the screen lock or pause the page; keep it plugged in and awake, and for something that matters (like a parking ticket), set your phone's built-in alarm as a backup.
