How to use the 10 minute timer

This 10 minute timer counts down from 10:00 as soon as you press Start and plays an alarm when it reaches zero. Once it is running, the screen also tells you the clock time it will finish, such as "ends at 3:45 PM".

  1. Press Start or tap the Space bar.
  2. Switch tabs if you need to – the remaining time shows in the browser tab title.
  3. Choose an alarm sound in the settings, or mute it for a silent visual countdown.
  4. Press R to go back to 10:00, or use Set Time for a different length.

What ten minutes is good for

  • A chore sprint. Ten focused minutes is enough to unload the dishwasher, clear a counter or reset your desk. Stopping at the alarm keeps one chore from eating the evening.
  • Small-group work in class. Ten minutes is a common block for a group task. Press F for full screen so the whole room can see the circle shrink, or try the classroom timer for a custom "time's up" message.
  • A real break. After a long study block, ten minutes lets you stretch, refill your water and look away from the screen. The 50/10 timer repeats that work-and-break cycle for you.
  • A heads-up for kids. "Ten more minutes" lands better when they can see it counting down.

Before you rely on it

The countdown is checked against your device clock, so it stays accurate in a background tab. The alarm only plays while this page is open, so leave the tab open until it rings.

Questions about the 10 minute timer

Is there a 10 minute timer with music? This page plays an alarm sound at the end, not background music. You can play your own playlist in another tab or app while the timer runs.

Will my phone go to sleep during the 10 minutes? The page asks the browser to keep the screen awake while it runs. Support depends on the browser, so check that your screen stays on if you need to hear the alarm.
